The Best Level 2 Data Platform in 2026 (And What Level 2 Really Costs)

Most people searching for the best Level 2 data platform are really asking two questions at once: who renders the order book well, and why is it so expensive. The answers are unrelated. Level 2 pricing has almost nothing to do with the software and almost everything to do with who owns the data — which is why crypto order book depth is free and CME depth is not, on every platform in this comparison.

Disclosure. We build NOROVIEW, so read this the way you would read any vendor's comparison page. What we can offer instead of neutrality is checkable numbers: every competitor figure below was taken from that vendor's own pricing page on 13 August 2026, not from a review site — the review sites disagreed with the vendors on nearly every number we checked. Where a competitor is better, it says so. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

Level 2 order book depth rendered as a liquidity heatmap beside the price axis
Level 2 rendered as a depth ledge beside the price axis. Depth: 100 levels on Basic, 900 on Pro, 1000 on Master.

The short version

For crypto Level 2: it is free at the source. Exchanges publish order book depth publicly, so what you pay for is rendering, not data. Bookmap's free tier, ATAS Start and NOROVIEW's free plan are all real-time on crypto.

For CME futures Level 2: you are buying an exchange subscription wherever you go. The cheapest all-in route here is NOROVIEW at $19/month with the data included; routes that bill software and data separately land between $49 and $83.

For equities Level 2: none of these is your answer — that is a broker and exchange-subscription question, and it is the most expensive of the three markets.

What Level 2 actually is, in one paragraph

Level 1 is the top of the book: last price, best bid, best ask, the size at those two prices, and total volume. Level 2 is the whole book — every price level with resting orders on it and how much size waits at each, on both sides. Almost every retail trader has only ever seen Level 1, which is why so many candles appear to lie. For the mechanics rather than the shopping list, we wrote a full lesson on Level 1 vs Level 2.

One caveat worth carrying into any purchase: Level 2 shows intentions, not facts. Resting orders can be cancelled and frequently are. Executed trades cannot. That is why serious order flow work pairs the book with the tape and the footprint rather than trusting the ladder alone.

Why the price varies so much: who owns the data

Crypto. Exchanges publish full order book depth over public websockets. Nobody charges for the data itself. This is a genuine structural advantage crypto has for anyone learning order flow — the barrier that keeps retail traders on Level 1 in equities simply does not exist.

CME futures. The exchange owns and sells the data. Every platform carrying live CME depth either passes an exchange fee through to you or absorbs it into a subscription. When Sierra Chart's documentation notes an additional cost for exchange fees for real-time data, that is not a platform markup — it is the exchange.

Equities. Most expensive of the three, fragmented across venues, and generally handled through your broker.

So when you compare Level 2 platforms, you are really comparing how each one packages a cost it does not control.

What each platform charges for Level 2

Platform Crypto depth CME futures depth Notes
NOROVIEW Real-time on free (~1s); depth ledger from $19 Included from $19/mo 100 / 900 / 1000 levels by tier
Bookmap Real-time, free tier, 20+ exchanges Software $49 + BookmapData from $34 Data sold separately on every package
Exocharts 5 exchanges Desktop Pro $49 + VAT, via dxFeed Free web is 24h delayed unregistered
ATAS Real-time on free Start PRO €69.95/mo Free plan cannot connect futures live
Sierra Chart Supported Package 5+ (36 USD) with Denali (packages 10–12) + exchange fees Market Depth Historical Graph needs Advanced
TradingView Available DOM from Plus; CME real-time is a separate add-on Browser-based

The row that surprises people is Bookmap's. Every Bookmap package — including the $99 one — lists futures as delayed; live futures depth is a separate BookmapData subscription from $34/month. Their crypto offering is excellent and free. Their futures offering is $83/month all-in.

How much depth do you actually need?

Platforms advertise depth levels and it is easy to assume more is better. It mostly is not.

For scalping and execution, the first 10–20 levels are where everything happens. Beyond that is context: where large resting size sits, and whether a wall is real. NOROVIEW's Basic plan gives 100 levels, far past the useful range for entry timing. The 900 and 1000-level tiers exist for heatmap work, where you want the full shape of resting liquidity across a wide price band rather than the top of the ladder.

So do not buy a tier for its depth number. Buy it for the features attached to it — on our plans that means smart indicators and the speed meter at Pro, and chart count at every step.

What real-time US futures order flow actually costs

Software price is the number vendors advertise. For CME order flow it is rarely the number you pay, because on several platforms the market data is a separate line item. This is the comparison that matters, all-in:

Platform Software Real-time futures data All-in / month Runs in
NOROVIEW Basic $19 Included $19 Browser
Exocharts Desktop Pro $49 dxFeed included $49 + VAT Desktop
Bookmap Global $49 + $34 BookmapData $83 Desktop
ATAS PRO €69.95 Included in PRO €69.95 + VAT Desktop
Quantower $70 Purchased separately $70+ Desktop
Sierra Chart $36–$56 Denali + exchange fees $36+ and up Desktop
TradingView Plus+ Plan price CME add-on, extra Plan + add-on Browser

Two things are worth saying plainly about that table. Bookmap's advertised $49 is not the price of futures order flow — BookmapData futures is $34/mo on top, so the real figure is $83. And NOROVIEW and TradingView are the only two that run in a browser, but TradingView bills CME real-time data as a separate add-on. That is the whole argument for NOROVIEW in one row.

Where NOROVIEW is the wrong choice

NOROVIEW covers Binance only for crypto — Exocharts reaches five exchanges and Bookmap more than twenty. It is analysis only: no execution, no broker routing, so you trade through your own broker or exchange. Historical tick depth and replay do not go as deep as Exocharts' six years. And futures data on the free plan is last-closed-session history rather than a live feed — real-time CME starts at $19.

For Level 2 specifically: if you need equities depth, none of this is your answer — talk to your broker. If you need depth across several crypto exchanges at once, Bookmap or Exocharts. And our own free plan does not include the depth ledger or heatmap at all; both start at $19.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Level 2 data cost?
For crypto, nothing — exchanges publish depth publicly and you only pay for software. For CME futures you are buying an exchange subscription somewhere in the stack: $19/month all-in on NOROVIEW, $49 plus $34 data on Bookmap, €69.95 on ATAS PRO, $49 plus VAT on Exocharts Desktop Pro, or a Sierra Chart package plus Denali plus exchange fees.

Is there free Level 2 data for crypto?
Yes. Crypto exchanges publish order book depth publicly, unlike most equity venues where Level 2 is a paid subscription. Bookmap's free Digital tier and ATAS's free Start plan both give real-time crypto depth. NOROVIEW's free plan streams real-time crypto, but the depth ledger and heatmap start at $19.

Is Level 2 better than Level 1?
It answers questions Level 1 cannot — whether large resting orders are defending a level, and whether liquidity stayed or was pulled. But it shows intentions rather than facts, since resting orders can be cancelled. Level 2 plus the tape plus a footprint chart is the combination that actually works.

Where can I get Level 2 data?
From the platform you chart on, in practice. For crypto, any platform compared here. For CME futures, whichever carries an exchange subscription you are willing to pay for. For equities, your broker.

Do I need Level 2 for crypto trading?
Not to place a trade, but it is the only way to see resting liquidity before it moves price. Since crypto depth is free at the source, the cost of finding out is essentially just the software.
